2004β2008: The Outsourcing Boom
Y2K proved India's capabilities. Exports nearly tripled from $12.5 Bn to $40 Bn. Infosys, Wipro and TCS became global brand names. Tier-2 cities like Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai emerged as new tech hubs.
2009β2015: GFC Recovery & Maturity
The 2008β09 global financial crisis briefly dented growth to single digits. Recovery was swift β exports grew from $47 Bn to $108 Bn by FY2015. Digital transformation began shifting work from maintenance to new-build.
2016β2020: Digital Wave & Disruption
Cloud, AI, and automation reshaped the industry. Traditional headcount-based models gave way to IP-led and platform delivery. Exports grew steadily to $149 Bn despite global uncertainty and automation anxiety.
2021β2026: Post-COVID Surge
Remote work validation triggered a hiring and deal supercycle. FY2022 saw 15%+ growth. GCCs exploded from 900 to 1,700+. Exports crossed $245 Bn in FY2024, making India the undisputed global IT services capital.
